TRH Hospice Launches Online Grief Library

BREVARD, N.C., June 15, 2010 – Transylvania Regional Hospital’s Hospice Services has launched a new online grief library to provide comfort and support to those grieving the death of a friend or loved one.

The free grief library can be found on Transylvania Regional Hospital’s Web site. The online library includes 57 thoughtful articles that cover a wide variety of issues on grief and loss. Examples of articles include: Living with a Serious Illness, The Uniqueness of Suicide Grief, Helping Your Family Cope When a Pet Dies, and Helping Yourself Heal When a Parent Dies.

There is also a collection of articles in TRH’s online grief library focused on grieving children and teens. In addition to the articles for individuals, there are articles offering guidance in helping friends, family members and coworkers who have experienced a loss.

“Grief is not always predictable and we never know when we may need added support as we live with our grief,” said Maria Mason, a TRH Hospice bereavement social worker.

All of the articles in the online grief library are written by Dr. Alan Wolfelt, an internationally noted author, educator and grief counselor. Each article is two to four pages long and can be printed out from the Web site. St. Philip’s Episcopal Church Foundation in Brevard provided funding for the grief library through a grant to TRH Hospice Services.

“We are pleased to be able to offer this helpful and very accessible resource to our community,” said Liz Cozart, TRH Hospice volunteer and bereavement coordinator. “We are grateful to St. Philip’s for the grant that made the grief library possible. The information in this online library is compassionate and clear. It will not make grief disappear, but it can provide insight and support to people who are grieving.”
