This past year has been a time of many achievements and new challenges at Transylvania Regional Hospital.
- One of the highlights was the opening of the Brevard Cancer & Infusion Center at TRH in 2009. It is paramount to our mission that we meet the essential health care needs of our community. With your generous support, we were able to establish this state-of-the-art center, which ensures the continued availability of local cancer care to patients and their families. Since the new cancer center opened in September 2009, we have already served nearly 700 patients.
- We launched “The Joint Experience” in 2009. Though top-quality orthopaedic care is nothing new to our hospital, we have enhanced this service to provide advance information for anyone considering joint replacement surgery. We let potential joint-replacement patients and their families know about the full continuum of quality care available close to home at TRH, provided by our board-certified orthopaedic surgeons and highly qualified team of health care professionals.
- We welcomed several new physicians to our community, and we worked with our physicians to ensure ready access for patients to primary care, including same-day appointments, for those who need it. Through this effort, our hospital-based physicians are now serving the immediate care needs of an additional 25 people each day. We also thank our independent primary-care physicians for their dedication in serving the people in our community.
- Putting quality first is a sincere commitment and a concerted effort at TRH. It is evidenced by the awards and top quality rankings in this report. Our proudest quality “achievement,” however, continues to be the individual efforts of our dedicated staff and physicians who care for our patients, both at the hospital and in the community. Every day, there are countless examples of people who go above and beyond to serve the health care needs of our patients, with remarkable skill and extraordinary compassion.
Looking Forward
- Last year, we began looking for ways to enhance the health care services we provide for our community, including the possibility of partnering with a larger health system. In February 2010, after months of careful study and discussion, our Board of Trustees voted to explore a partnership with Mission Health System. And recently, leaders at TRH and Mission took the next step, approving a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between our two organizations and beginning negotiations to finalize an affiliation agreement. The purpose of this partnership is to maintain, enhance and increase local health care services for our community.
- Rest assured that the sole objective of the anticipated affiliation is to better serve your health care needs. Transylvania Regional Hospital remains committed to community-focused care and to maintaining, strengthening and growing the health care services available for our patients.
Challenging, yet exciting, days are ahead of us, as the provisions of health care reform are implemented. Amid this changing environment, we will continually strive to find more efficient ways to provide quality care and excellent service.
